The English Premier League kicks off on Friday August 5, 2022, when Crystal Palace host Arsenal in the first edition of Friday Night Football for the 2022/23 season. Soccer’s most popular league returns after an intense season that was settled on the final day in May. Twenty squads compete in 38 gameweeks for glory. Champions Manchester City look to start their title defense on a high note against West Ham United. After losing the league by a single point to the boys in blue, Liverpool start their season against newly promoted side Fulham. Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth round out the three new teams to feature in the Premier League as Bournemouth face Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest take on Newcastle. The league looks to fit as many games as possible in before the 2022 World Cup kicks off in Qatar for a month starting in November.

New faces to the top division in England include Erling Haaland who completed a transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City, Darwin Nunez at Liverpool, defender Kalidou Koulibaly at Chelsea, Ivan Perisic to Tottenham, and a pair of American international stars at Leeds United, Brendan Aaronson and Tyler Adams. A slew of notable players will be unrecognizable in their new kits after a summer of big shakeups. Manchester City stars Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus completed moves to Chelsea and Arsenal respectively. Young England international star Kalvin Philips moved to Manchester City. And the inspirational Christian Eriksen completed a move to Manchester United.
