Yankees Clinch AL East, Aaron Judge Still Seeking Home Run #61

The Yankees clinch this year’s AL East title with a 5-2 win in Toronto over the Blue Jays. Gleyber Torres stayed red-hot with three RBI singles, and Jameson Taillon shoved seven and one third razor sharp innings, allowing just two runs on five hits en route to the division clinching victory. And now for what you really came for, a check-in on Aaron Judge and his chase for 61. Well, you’ll have to wait yet another day, as Judge walked not once, not twice, not thrice, but FOUR times last night and remains stuck at 60 with now just eight games remaining to tie and then hopefully break Roger Maris’ mark of 61. In the meantime, American League East champions sounds pretty good to #99.

Judge will take another crack at 61 on the road tonight in the series finale with Toronto, set for a 7:07 pm first pitch. Gerrit Cole will take the bump going up against Toronto’s Mitch White.

As for the Mets, they are still knee-deep in their battle for the NL East, as they dropped their opener to the Miami Marlins last night in Queens by a score of 6-4 to drop into a deadlocked tie with the Atlanta Braves for first place in the division. Carlos Carrasco was underwhelming on the mound once again for the Mets, lasting just three innings en route to his fourth start of four or fewer innings in his last six showings. The Mets will try and salvage the finale of their short two-gamer with the Marlins in town, before heading directly into the belly of the beast that is Atlanta, for a season defining three-game set. Manager Buck Showalter spoke about the impending trip to Atlanta following last night’s loss.

Taijuan Walker will take the ball tonight for New York, going up against Miami’s Jesus Luzardo for a 7:10 pm first pitch.
