That is what The Mets are doing. They need a miracle. After leading the division for all but two days, the Mets will now need to sweep Washington along with a Marlins sweep of the Braves to win the division, avoid the #4 seed, and host the Wild Card round. So far, Atlanta has dropped the series opener to Miami and the Mets are about to start their final series with the finale on Wednesday. The Mets have stated that Jacob Degrom will be ready to pitch on Wednesday if need be. Carlos Carrasco and Taijuan Walker will pitch in the doubleheader.

The Mets have to make short memories of this past weekend in Atlanta and get back to the basics. Every ounce of success that this team has was nowhere to be found against the Braves. Lackluster pitching, leaving runners on base, and not working counts played a big role in denying the NL East dreams of the 2022 New York Mets.

Perhaps the absence of Starling Marte is being felt the most as the Mets All-Star is weeks removed from getting hit on the hand and fracturing his finger. Marte is still unable to fully grip a bat or a baseball. The situation seems very murky regarding his availability should the Mets play in the Wild Card series. The latest update from Buck Showalter was that he is progressing “little by little” but “not to the point where he can play in games,” The Mets Manager said on Tuesday.

Stay Tuned.
