49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said it’s “up in the air” whether Christian McCaffrey will play in Week 7 against the Chiefs.
After the blockbuster trade was announced late Thursday night McCaffrey fantasy owners now get set back to reality. The 26-year old still has to pass a physical for the Niners and won’t log a single practice with the team ahead of this Sunday’s matchup against Kansas City.
“I’m still up in the air whether we’re going to be able to get him here for Sunday or not,” said Shanahan. “I know for sure he’ll be here the following Sunday. But that’s kind of why I’m in a wait-and-see approach right now.”
It’s a tricky spot for fantasy owners. Right now, the odds seems stacked up against McCaffrey playing on Sunday. If active, his workload will be incredibly difficult to predict. Shanahan did mention he considered re-drawing the team’s red zone plays for CMC, to get him on the field in some capacity.
Jeff Wilson will be a low-end RB2 play if McCaffrey is inactive for Week 7.
