Tthe Brooklyn Nets announced they have named Jacque Vaughn as their head coach. Vaughn, a Nets assistant since 2016, was named acting head coach after the Nets parted ways with Steve Nash following a 2-5 start.

Vaughn, a former college star spent 12 seasons in the NBA as a player has coached in the league since 2010. He began his coaching career as an assistant with the San Antonio Spurs under Gregg Popovich.

Nets general manager Sean Marks said in a statement: “Jacque’s basketball acumen, competitiveness and intimate knowledge of our team and organization make him the clear-cut best person to lead our group moving forward. He has a proven ability to get the best out of our players, hold them accountable and play a cohesive, team-first style of basketball.”

Th Nets were heavily linked to Celtics Head Coach Ime Udoka but got immense pushback so decided to go down the safe route. With Kyrie Irving breaking the internet last week, it was best for Brooklyn not to add more distractions to an already disfunctional team. Udoka was suspended indefinitely by the Celtics after inappropriate workplace behavior with a female employee.

The Nets are 2-2 with Vaughn at the helm, but they could easily be 3-1 if not for some heroics by Luka Doncic on Monday. They will take on the Knicks tonight in the Barclays Center.
