Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Mets have spoken to impending free agent Justin Verlander.

Rosenthal notes that the Mets had a Zoom call with the American League Cy Young award winner last week. The Mets top priority this offseason is addressing their starting rotation — as the team could potentially be down three starters from 2021.

With Jacob deGrom, Chris Bassitt and Taijuan Walker all on the open market, nothing is off the table for Steve Cohen this offseason. The Mets have also been linked to Kodai Senga and Jameson Taillon.

Verlander fresh off his third Cy-Young opted out of his deal with the Astros — where he would have earned $25 million in 2023 — and now seeks a monumental multi-year deal this winter.

Stay Tuned.
