Despite the torrential rain and slippery field conditions the New York Jets routed the Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium 31-10. This time though it was not the defense that took the reins. Enter the return of quarterback Mike White.

Mike White was named the starter for this game following Zach Wilson’s failure to take accountability for his poor play in last week’s loss to New England. White immediately made his presence known. He drove the field on the opening drive, leading the Jet offense 75 yards in nine plays. The drive was capped off with an eight yard strike to wide receiver Garret Wilson to put the Jets up 7-0. From that point on the Jets offense looked like a finely tuned machine.

White again connected with Wilson once more in the second quarter allowing the Jets to again obtain the lead. Gang Green trailed 10-7 in the second quarter until White found Wilson for a 54 yard catch and run touchdown. Wilson became the first Jets rookie to have two games with multiple touchdown receptions in a season. The offense never looked back from there and put up a season high 466 total yards.

White went 22 for 28, for 315 yards, three touchdowns, and zero turnovers. Zach Wilson threw just three touchdown passes over the course of the last six games. White spread the ball out to at least 10 different receivers and looked polished in the pocket. He became the fifth quarterback in Jets franchise history to have multiple games with 300 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Both the Jets ground game and defense got off to a slow start in the first half but picked it up immensely in the second half. The running game had just 29 yards in the first two quarters but finished with 158 total yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, the defense produced three straight punts, a turnover on downs, and an interception courtesy of linebacker CJ Mosley.

The Jets take on the Minnesota Vikings Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Things to Note:

  • Wide receiver Elijah Moore finally got on the stat sheet under the touchdown category with a 22 yard reception.
  • Running back Michael Carter left the game with a sprained ankle.
