Kenley Jansen has agreed to a two-year, $32 million contract with the Red Sox, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

In what has been a head scratching offseason thus far, the Sox have finally made their first noteworthy free agent signing.

Regardless, this figures to at least strengthen the back of the bullpen, which ranked among the worst in baseball last season. Boston also added relievers Chris Martin (Dodgers) and Joely Rodriguez (Mets.)

Jansen, 35, pitched to a 3.38 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 64 innings this past season with the Braves, finishing with a NL-best 41 saves.

The Red Sox will need to add a lot more to be deemed serious contenders heading into 2023.
