Mets Owner Steve Cohen Does It Again

New York Mets owner Steve Cohen continues to make big splash signings and help Met fans to forget about the dismal days of the Wilpons. If you thought Cohen’s work was done after he signed 2022 Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander and Japanese sensation Kodai Senga, think again. Cohen inked super star shortstop Carlos Correa to a 12-year $315 million deal.

This coming after the 13-year $350 million mega deal with the San Francisco Giants fell through due to a medical issue. The Giants inked him last week and were supposed to introduce him yesterday but ultimately Correa’s agent, Scott Boras and the Giants differed in their beliefs on the medical. Steve Cohen then wasted no time in taking out his check book.

The Mets now have an infield that looks incredibly scary on paper. You could potentially have Petey Alonso at first base, Jeff McNeil at second, Francisco Lindor at short stop, and now Carlos Correa at third. Manager Buck Showalter has a ton of flexibility to work with as well, already having guys like third baseman Eduardo Escobar and utility man Luis Guillorme.

The only red flag about Correa is his durability as he has only had one season in which he played in at least 150 total games. He has a complicated injury history that includes back, thumb, and rib injuries. When healthy though, Correa is an outstanding positional player and without a doubt improves an already very good Mets lineup.
