Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Yankees are among the teams in contact with the Pirates about Bryan Reynolds.

Reynolds requested a trade from the Pirates in November and the 27-year-old has a number of suitors considering his unique skill set and years of club control.

According to Jon Heyman, Reynolds made the request because contract extension talks between the two sides have reached an “impasse.”

The 2021 All Star, signed a two-year, $13.5 million extension with the Pirates in April and is under team control through 2025.

While the Yankees makes a ton of sense on paper, Morosi mentions “Pittsburgh prefers starting pitchers to headline the return and top end of Yankees’ system is deeper in position players.”

Reynolds hit .262 with 27 home runs and 62 RBI across 614 plate appearances last season.

The San Francisco Giants selected Reynolds in the second round of the 2016 MLB draft, and the Pirates acquired him in a trade of Andrew McCutchen in 2018.
