Texans WR John Metchie III could be ready for the team’s offseason program, according to General Manager Nick Caserio.

During an interview Wednesday, Caserio said Metchie’s strength is improving and that he’s progressing well.

“He’s improved his strength, his lower body strength. His attitude’s been great, even though he’s been dealing with a lot of things medically,” Caserio said.

Metchie spent his entire rookie season on the reserve/non-football illness list after he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia in July.

After an “amazing” recovery, the team now believes there’s a real chance he could be back for their offseason program.

The Texans drafted the 22-year-old in the second round of last year’s draft. The former Alabama product closed out his final season with a receiving line of 96-1142-8 and should provide whoever the Texans have under center a massive boost come next season.
