The Twins and Marlins have agreed to trade that will swap Luis Arraez and Pablo López, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post adds that the Twins will also acquire two prospects from Miami in addition to Lopez.

The Twins swap out three years of Arraez, the reigning American League batting champion (.316 batting average), for two seasons of Lopez, who’ll should bolster a starting rotation that struggled in 2022.

While Lopez has dealt with a surplus of injuries in his career, the 26-year-old has come into his own over the past three seasons, pitching to a 3.52 ERA over 340 innings.

It’s a trade that shouldn’t surprise anyone in baseball, as Lopez has been linked to the Twins all winter. The newly acquired right hander will immediately step into a Twins rotation that also includes Sony Gray, Joe Ryan, Tyler Mahle and Kenta Maeda.

The Twins likely turn to Alex Kirilloff at first.

The Marlins in return get Arraez who was named to his first All-Star team last season. Arraez is a versatile player that can play anywhere in the infield. In 144 games last year, the 25-year-old made 65 starts at 1B, 41 at 2B, 38 at DH, and 7 at 3B.

Arraez will presumably step in as the Marlins’ first baseman, pushing Garrett Cooper into a timeshare at DH.
