For the third time in his career Dak Prescott elevated the Cowboys into the divisional round of the playoffs, and for the third time Dallas was sent home in dramatic fashion.

Prescott completed 22-of-36 passes for 198 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in Dallas’ 19-12, Divisional Round loss to the 49ers on Sunday.

“If I had the answers, then we would’ve won tonight. Too early. Too soon,” Prescott said. “And I promise you we will, though. In my time playing on this team, for this organization, we will. Yeah, it sucks that it’s 365 days away to get back to this position, but we’ve got to take it day by day, step by step, and that’s what I’ll do. I know that’s who I am. I’ll respond the right way. As I said, when we get this team aligned, the guys that we get back, coaches, we’ll do what’s necessary to be right back here and win the next time.”

The NFL’s interception leader (missed five games) went out in style by throwing two picks, and nearly threw a game-sealing pick-six to Dre Greenlaw that Greenlaw simply dropped.

“I’m disappointed in the way that I’ve played. Those guys in that locker room gave it all. Both sides of the ball. And put me in a position to go win the game. And I wasn’t able to do that,” he said. “And, yeah, I mean, I put it on my shoulders. When you play this position, when you play for this organization, you’ve got to accept that. That’s the reality of it. And as I said, it will make me better.

Your headline today; Dak Prescott is not the answer.

The 29-year-old is fresh off his worst season, headlined by yet again another dud in the biggest game of his career. It’s fair to say we’ve see Dak at his best, and that’s just a painfully average QB.

While the former 4th-round pick has been a cute storyline, it’s evidently obvious the Cowboys will never get over the hump with mediocrity.

Remember, Prescott and the Cowboys agreed to a four year, $160 million  ($95 guaranteed) contract in 2021, locking Dallas in long-term without much flexibility to add surrounding talent.

That means Dak Prescott will be back under center in 2024.

And that means another disappointing season on the horizon.
