NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports former Saints head coach Sean Payton is “more likely than not” to return to FOX Sports as an analyst.

Garafolo on NFL Network, was clear cut saying, “I don’t think he’s getting that Denver job.” He added, “As of right now, it doesn’t seem like there’s a place for Sean Payton.”

There were reports yesterday that Payton had earned a second interview with the Broncos, but just a day later that was deemed inaccurate.

While it’s a seems like a logical hire on paper, any team looking to add the 59-year-old needs to negotiate a trade with the Saints. After that, they need to meet his sky high contract demands.

It was reported Payton is believed to be seeking $20-$25 million per season in contract negotiations, along with a four-year deal. The Saints consider two first-round picks the “starting point” in any trade discussions.

NFL coaching salaries are not universally known, but it was recently reported that Patriots coach Bill Belichick leads the league with an estimated $20 million a year. Payton’s demands would put him near or ahead of that mark if he were to get them.

With plenty of competent candidates available, it looks like the Sean Payton drama has officially come to a crashing end.
