Aaron Rodgers to the…Jets? Gang Green cornerback Sauce Gardner seems to know a bit about the situation.
“I can’t speak on it too much,” Gardner said on Good Morning Football today. “But I know a little something about something.”
Recruiting quarterbacks isn’t foreign to Gardner, who took to Twitter to voice his want for a new locker room leader:
“Aye @AaronRodgers12,” Gardner tweeted last week. “Nvm, I forgot what I was about to say.”
Gardner tweeted out similar sentiments to try to poach Derek Carr away from other potential contenders. Multiple reports cited the Jets interest in bringing in a veteran quarterback with Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and Raiders QB Derek Carr being heavily linked to the team.
More fuel was added to the fire after the Jets hired former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to fill the same position for the Jets. Rodgers’ lackluster 2022 season included 3695 passing yards, his lowest total since 2017. That, paired with his most interceptions since 2010 with 12 may lead Rodgers to find a new home.
After all, Rodgers’ last and only Super Bowl appearance came in the 2010-2011 season, where Green Bay boasted the top defense in the NFL in terms of yards allowed per game. The 2022 Jets ranked fourth in that category this year.
The 2023 offseason will certainly be one to keep our eyes on. With the Tom Brady domino already falling, the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, Lamar Jackson, among others could be next.
