Christian McCaffrey Says NFC Championship was “Stolen”

There is still some saltiness on the San Francisco side following the NFC Championship.

Appearing on “The Up and Adams Show” with Kay Adams, Christian McCaffrey said, “It’s tough, it’s just tough. It sucks, I wish we would’ve had a healthy quarterback. It just feels like something was stolen from you.”

This follows the Eagles’ 31-7 beatdown over the 49ers in the NFC Championship last week. An early Philadelphia lead parlayed with a Brock Purdy injury opened the floodgates for an eventual Philly win.

Despite suffering what was later discovered to be a torn UCL in his throwing elbow, Brock Purdy returned to the game after the Niners’ fourth-string quarterback, Josh Johnson suffered a concussion in the matchup.

“It’s tough to win a football game in the NFL without a quarterback, especially in the NFC Championship Game against a defense like that,” McCaffrey said. “You know, you don’t practice a whole lot of Veer in practice, you don’t practice a lot of emergency quarterback. Not to say you don’t practice it, but it’s just not something that’s ideal, especially with a whole half of football left, so we were just trying to do whatever we could at the time.”

The 26-year-old running back is now the second Niners’ player to publicly share their displeasure on the teams anticlimactic ending.

On Sunday, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk took to The SFNiners via NBCSportsBayArea to say the Eagles are lucky to make it to the Super Bowl. “You get lucky to win the Super Bowl,” Aiyuk said. “And they got extremely lucky.”

McCaffrey was asked if he agrees with his teammates comments and replied, “I hope both teams lose.”

It’s fair to assume the 49ers are still not over their crushing NFC Championship loss ten days ago. You know what they say though; time heals all wounds.

Philadelphia faces Kansas City in the Super Bowl on Sunday at 6:30.
