Per Rangers’ GM Chris Young, Jacob deGrom felt tightness in his left side in his bullpen session a couple days ago. Texas has subsequently pushed back his throwing session from today until Thursday.
Here we go.
The Rangers are taking the optimistic approach here, insisting the session was delayed thanks to cold and wet conditions. Obviously, the team thinks everything is fine if he’s still planning to throw tomorrow though.
Young adds, “It probably says more about me than it does Jake.”
Pitchers and catchers reported to spring training for the Rangers Wednesday.
deGrom, 34, signed a five-year, $185 million contract with the Rangers this offseason.
While Young downplayed concerns about deGrom’s health, this was not news Rangers fans wanted to hear on the first day of spring training. Despite a laundry list of accolades, the two-time Cy Young Award Winner has pitched in just 224 1/3 innings over the past three seasons.
