NFL: Los Angeles Chargers at Las Vegas Raiders
(New York, NY) – After the New York Jets reportedly offered free agent QB Derek Carr a contract earlier this week, we’re hearing more about how excited the team is to possibly bring him into the mix.
According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, the Jets think they’d become a Super Bowl contender with Carr under center. Reporting for ESPN, Russini detailed the Jets’ pitch to Carr, saying it was highly personal in its approach. She says team brass intimated, “Derek Carr can step in here and take this team not just to the playoffs but to the Super Bowl.”
During meetings that were later described as “very positive,” Jets officials suggested Carr “could be a first ballot Hall of Famer,” if he comes to New York. That may seem like a lofty progression for some NFL observers, after the 31-year-old Carr threw a career high 14 interceptions last season and ranked 29th in completion rate over expected.
The Las Vegas raiders released him earlier this month after nine seasons with the franchise. Carr led the silver and black to the playoffs twice.
Carr has also been linked to the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers during free agency.
Reports indicate he’s doing his “due diligence” while evaluating potential landing spots. Meanwhile, the Jets are theoretically still exploring the potential to trade for Aaron Rodgers – who may be ready to move on from Green Bay.
Regardless, we know Gang Green will have a new face under center in 2023.
