(New York, NY) – After being brought in as head coach of the Carolina Panthers, Frank Reich vowed that “all options” were on the table, in terms of upgrading at QB.

In fact, Reich identified filling the QB void as the team’s top priority. It looks like that’s true, after the team reportedly reached out to Green Bay to discuss a potential trade for four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.

The Panthers saw three different quarterbacks start a game this season. Baker Mayfield was the Week 1 starter. However, after a 1-5 start, he was eventually released. Mayfield was replaced by P.J. Walker, but the former XFL stand out didn’t fare much better across five starts. Sam Darnold eventually ended the year under center.

All three are currently free agents.

As first reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter, Carolina contacted Green Bay, as it appears Rodgers will be traded away from the team that drafted him in 2005. Admittedly, it wasn’t a strong last season for the 39-year-old Rodgers, who tossed 26 touchdowns against 12 picks. That’s the most interceptions he’s thrown since 2008.

Rodgers recently emerged from time spent at a darkness retreat in Oregon, where he vowed to consider the future of his career. He then said a decision will be made “soon.” As for Carolina, they’ve also been exploring the possibility of signing free agent QB Derek Carr, who’s in high demand, much like Rodgers.

The New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders are also reportedly pursuing Carr – as well as Rodgers.
