( New York, NY) — John Cena just made his in-ring return, but it might be for the last time.

The 16-time world champion made a surprise return to WWE Monday Night Raw this past Monday in Boston, making his first appearance since December 30th on SmackDown in a tag team match with Kevin Owens.

Cena got an incredibly warm welcome back from his fans, with a classic crowd pop and standing ovation from his hometown.

During Cena’s emotional return speech, he was interrupted by Austin Theory, WWE’s current United States Champion- who challenged him to a match for the US belt. While at first, the legendary WWE superstar declined, after a lot of banter and roasting in classic Cena fashion- the pair now have a set match for WWE Wrestlemania 39 in Los Angeles.

While exciting, this might be something bittersweet for wrestling fans- more specifically Cena fans, all over the world. Many are speculating that this may be the fighter’s final fight before he officially retires from the brand altogether.

Cena took to Twitter this morning, stating:

“Last night was the first time I entered the arena and had the thought that it might be the last time. I’ll never be able to put into words how much I love the #WWEUniverse

Cena, 45, made his WWE debut in 2002, winning 17 championships in his career.
