( New York, NY) — The New Orleans Pelicans are quickly falling down the standings in the Western Conference.  The latest speculation regarding all-star Zion Williamson is making things even worse.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst is reporting WIlliamson is ‘not close’ to a return. Williamson has been out since January 2nd after suffering a hamstring injury. Initial reports had Williamson missing three weeks.

It has now been over two months.

This throws a wrench into a New Orleans team that while competitive, can’t maintain the sneaky threat title that was placed upon it at the beginning of the year.

For the 28 games Williamson has missed, the Pelicans have an 8-20 record. This adds to Jose Alvardo and Larry Nance Jr. also missing time due to injuries.

In one of the most competitive Western Conferences of all time, the Pelicans are stuck at 31-34, 10th in the conference. Their latest game was a 15-point loss to the Sacramento Kings.

Instead of fighting among Denver, Memphis, and Sacramento for home-court advantage, New Orleans is instead in a dogfight to make it in the play-in, with teams that are either rebuilding or have no chance at making noise in the playoffs.
