(New York, NY) — The New York Yankees are in shambles on March 9th; three weeks before their season opener vs. the San Francisco Giants.
Bombers newly acquired Carlos Rodón was diagnosed with a mild forearm strain and will begin the season on the injured list, according to GM Brian Cashman.
It’s devastating news for Yankees fans, and their $162 million man. Rodón has been shut down for 7-10 days and assuming the injury improves, he’ll have to then build back arm strength. This will likely push him back a few weeks to begin the season.
It is a significant blow for the Yankees, who signed the 30-year-old to a six-year, $162 million contract in December to help strengthen their rotation.
The Bombers are already without starting pitcher Frankie Montas, who could miss the entire season. Cashman also told reporters that relievers Tommy Kahnle and Lou Trivino will begin the season on the injured list.
Rodon complied a 2.88 ERA with 237 strikeouts across 178 innings with the Giants last season. He was named to his second consecutive All-Star game.
