NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament Second Round-Fairleigh Dickinson vs Florida Atlantic
(New York, NY) — Talk about making the most of your opportunities.
Fairleigh Dickinson’s Tobin Anderson, has agreed to a five-year deal to become the next coach at Iona sources told ESPN. The deal has been finalized, according to sources, and Anderson is expected to inform his team at a meeting Tuesday afternoon.
The 51-year-old will replace Rick Pitino, who left Iona for St. Johns on Monday after three seasons.
In his first year at FDU, Anderson led his team to one of the biggest upsets in NCAA tournament history. The 16th-seeded Knights stunned No. 1 Purdue 63-58. It was just the second time a No. 16 defeated a No. 1 seed in the first round of men’s tournament.
“We went toe-to-toe with two great teams, and didn’t back down, didn’t go away,” said Anderson on Sunday after the team’s season-ending loss. “Every part of this I’ll remember forever.”
Fairleigh Dickinson went 4-22 last season under Greg Herenda. The school hired Anderson from St. Thomas Aquinas, a Division II school, last offseason.
