(New York, NY) — Talk about saving face (literally).

Only after being hit in the face by a pitch less than two weeks ago, Boston Red Sox’ Justin was back in the Red Sox’ lineup for Monday’s Grapefruit League showdown against the Pirates.

After going 1-for-2 with a run scored in Boston’s loss, Turner shared a slideshow of Instagram photos that captured his road to recovery.

You can check them out here, but be warned, several of the photos are pretty graphic. Turner needed 16 stitches to repair the damage. He was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed and bled on the field. But aside from patching up his face, there are no other serious injury concerns.

By getting back onto the field Monday, Turner seemingly eliminated any doubt about his Opening Day status.

The 38-year-old inked a one-year, $15-million deal with the Red Sox in December after spending the past nine seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He’s is expected to be the club’s primary DH and will also play first base.
