(New York, NY) — Boston’s hottest hitter is heading to the injured list.
The Red Sox announced Monday they have placed OF Adam Duvall on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist injury, which is the same one that he underwent season-ending surgery on last year.
Duvall hurt himself attempting to make a diving-catch attempt in Sunday’s win over the Tigers. After landing awkwardly, the 34-year-old immediately removed his glove and was in noticeable pain. He exited the game, and Raimel Tapia replaced him.
No word yet on exactly how long he’ll be sidelined, but there is expected to be an official update on his status from the Red Sox sometime on Monday evening. In a corresponding move, the team recalled infielder Bobby Dalbec from Triple-A Worcester.
“He almost made a spectacular play,” left fielder Rob Refsnyder said. “That’s a big guy out there. I don’t think people really realize how big he is and how fast he moves. Looks like he was fully extended. … He’s all-around a really, really good ballplayer so we’re all hoping for the best.”
Duvall has tantalized opposing pitching thus far, hitting .455 with four homers and 14 RBIs in the teams first eight games. He lead the MLB in OPS. It’s a monumental loss for the Sox who noticeably lack depth in their outfield.
Boston opens a three game set in Tropicana with the scorching hot Rays Monday night.
