(New York, NY) — The Red Sox hottest hitter is heading to the injured list. Outfielder Adam Duvall was diagnosed with a distal radius fracture in his left wrist, manager Alex Cora said Monday.

He was placed on the 10-day injured list, with the expectation that he’ll miss several weeks of action. The team does not yet have a specific timetable for his recovery. It is unclear if he will need surgery.

Duvall, 34, injured his wrist after landing awkwardly on it while fielding a ball in the ninth inning of Sunday’s 4-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. . He exited the game, and Raimel Tapia replaced him.

“He almost made a spectacular play,” left fielder Rob Refsnyder said. “That’s a big guy out there. I don’t think people really realize how big he is and how fast he moves. Looks like he was fully extended. … He’s all-around a really, really good ballplayer so we’re all hoping for the best.”

Starter Kutter Crawford was also keeping his fingers crossed for the 34-year-old.

“That’s not fun to watch at all,” Crawford said. “Seeing him walk off the field, I think we’re all just kind of pulling for him and hopefully it’s not as serious as we might think it is.”

Duvall has tantalized opposing pitching thus far, hitting .455 with four homers and 14 RBIs in the teams first eight games. He lead the MLB in OPS. It’s a monumental loss for the Sox who noticeably lack depth in their outfield. He signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Sox in January
