(New York, NY) — The Red Sox hottest hitter is heading to the injured list. Outfielder Adam Duvall was diagnosed with a distal radius fracture in his left wrist, manager Alex Cora said Monday.
He was placed on the 10-day injured list, with the expectation that he’ll miss several weeks of action. The team does not yet have a specific timetable for his recovery. It is unclear if he will need surgery.
Duvall, 34, injured his wrist after landing awkwardly on it while fielding a ball in the ninth inning of Sunday’s 4-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. . He exited the game, and Raimel Tapia replaced him.
Starter Kutter Crawford was also keeping his fingers crossed for the 34-year-old.
Duvall has tantalized opposing pitching thus far, hitting .455 with four homers and 14 RBIs in the teams first eight games. He lead the MLB in OPS. It’s a monumental loss for the Sox who noticeably lack depth in their outfield. He signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Sox in January
