(New York, NY) — Yankees pitcher Luis Severino is inching closer to a return.

The 29-year-old (lat) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Thursday, after reporting no issues on Monday. He will progress to facing hitters later this week.

“Feels really good,” said Severino, who threw 22 pitches on Monday evening in Cleveland. “We’ll see [Tuesday] how I feel and then we’re going to go from there.” The right-hander was able to throw all of his pitches during the session — including a new splitter that he has been developing.

Despite the encouraging report, his overall timeline still remains murky.

“I don’t know that,” manager Aaron Boone said. “First thing was getting through today. Sounds like that went pretty well. I don’t know exactly the plan.”

Severino said he has not felt any pain in his lat since about a week after the injury happened, which was during his postgame routine after a Grapefruit League start on March 21 vs. the Detroit Tigers.

“Whatever it takes [to get back],” he said. “I don’t know what they think. The trainers are the bosses of that [rehab schedule]. They know more about this than me. So whatever they tell me to do, that’s what we’re going to do,” Sevy said.

Sevy’s going to need at least a couple of minor league rehab starts before he’s ready to rejoin the rotation, but barring any setbacks he could be back in pinstripes before the end of April. The 29-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late March due to a low-grade right lat strain.
