NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers
(New York, NY) — Mike Sullivan won’t be coaching the New York Rangers.
The Penguins head coach told the New York Post he is all-in on Pittsburgh after signing a three-year contract extension through 2027.
“No, I am under contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, here for the long haul,” Sullivan said over the phone with the Post.
Despite being a former Rangers assistant coach, Sullivan has been caught up in his own job-searching responsibilities. He has been in a supporting role in the Penguins’ search for a general manager.
Rangers remain in the head coach search after dismissing Gerard Gallant.
Meanwhile, the Penguins failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 2006, ending the league’s longest postseason streak at 16 years.
