(New York, NY) — A former Pittsburgh Steelers player is heading to prison after being sentenced for the stabbing death of a man.

Former running back Eric Wilkerson stabbed 46-year-old Brian Weems during an altercation at an apartment in Cleveland in March of 2022.

According to the report, the two men got into an argument inside Weems’ apartment before Wilkerson followed Weems into the bathroom and stabbed him.

Wilkerson pleaded guilty to lesser charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence in exchange for a sentence of twelve to 17-and-a-half years in prison. That means he won’t be released until he’s between 68 and 73 years old. He’ll then be on probation for another two years.

Wilkerson signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 1989 and was on the team for one season before being signed with the Detroit Lions.

A college standout, Wilkerson’s number 40 was retired by Kent State in 1989 and he was later inducted into the of Fame in 1995.
