Florham Park, NJ May 31, 2023 -- Jets head coach Robert Saleh addresses the media before the start of the Jets OTA.

Wednesday, June 7, 2023—A Quinnen Williams deal is near completion, said New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

Williams, entering the final year of his rookie contract, is slated to make slightly more than $9.5 million this season. The 25-year-old is fresh off a breakout campaign, in which he complied 12 sacks, earning first team All-Pro.

With a vital defensive tackle market this offseason, many players received lucrative contract extensions. That list includes New York Giants star Dexter Lawrence who inked over $20 million per year.

“I speak for everyone — I probably speak for Quinnen — we all want it to get done sooner rather than later,” said Saleh. With no agreement yet made, the run-stuffer was absent during the franchise’s voluntary offseason program. Williams’ absence doesn’t surprise Saleh, in fact, he is confident that a deal will be reached before this summer’s training camp.

“I’ll let the business guys handle all that. It’s going to get done. He’ll be here for camp. He’ll be ready to roll. Once he is, I’m sure he’ll be the same guy he was a year ago,” concluded an optimistic Saleh.

While the exact date is unknown, training camp starts sometime in August 2023, buying the Jets a bit more than enough sign their defensive star.
