Published reports suggest that pitcher Max Scherzer will possibly waive his no trade clause in order to facilitate a trade ahead of the deadline, if in fact things continue to go poorly for the Mets.

The soon to be 39 year old isn’t having the best of seasons thus far posting a 3.95 ERA and his lowest strikeout total since 2011.  Scherzer’s salary could be a potential obstacle since he has a $43.33 million dollar player option in 2024.  Perhaps Mets owner Steve Cohen will address this in Wednesday’s press conference that will take place prior to the game against the Brewers.

The Mets currently sit 16 games back of first in the NL East, and eight games back of the second Wild Card spot.
