Patriots and Titans Favorite to Land Hopkins

Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins waits during a timeout during the third quarter against the Houston Texans in Glendale on Oct. 24, 2021.

The Patriots and Titans are in the driver’s seat for free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins’ services.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Titans have been “more aggressive” between the two teams, and both have offered the superstar pass catcher a contract.

Hopkins is in no rush to make a decision, especially because of the possibility of a third team entering the mix. The Chiefs are reportedly interested in Hopkins but have a large hurdle to get over with cap space. With just $402,942 in available salary cap, the reigning Super Bowl champions remain a bit of a long shot, however.

Titans might bring Hopkins the most money but the Chiefs bring winning while the Patriots give Hopkins a familiar face in new Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.

O’Brien was Hopkins’ head coach while the pair were with the Texans.

Whichever team gets Hopkins is getting him for a while. Hopkins expressed his intention to continue playing football until the age of 37.

His reported asking price of around $15 million would match Odell Beckham Jr.’s deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

For now? New England and Tennessee appear to be the clear front-runners in sweepstakes, with both teams are need of a true WR1. More offers could be on the horizon in the coming weeks leading up to training camp.
