(New York) — Alarming details are emerging on the incident that landed Domingo Germán on the restricted list.

Germán agreed to treatment for alcohol abuse on Wednesday and the 30-year-old will be away from the club for at least the remainder of the season.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Yankees pitcher was severely intoxicated in the team’s clubhouse and raised chaos in the facility.

“He flipped over a couch in the clubhouse, smashed at least one television, and was held for a period of time in the facility’s “nap room” while being monitored by team security.”

In an effort to deescalate the situation,  Germán was forced into a sauna in an attempt to sweat out the alcohol, according to people present.

During the effusion, Germán lashed out at manager Aaron Boone, along with others.

“He is a sweetheart of a guy,” Boone said Wednesday, after a Yankees 7-2 win. “So when you see something that has now affected his livelihood and his life and you know how serious it is, it is very sad for someone that’s very talented.”

“We want the best for the person going through a difficult time. You just hope and pray that he gets the right kind of help that truly gets him going in the right direction for the rest of his life,” the manager added.

“It just affects you as a human being,” said Gerrit Cole. “You care about your teammates and your teammates families. (It’s) a sad situation and you just hope for the best for Domingo.”

German’s behavior on Tuesday was not connected to the armpit injury that led the Yankees to scratch him from Monday’s start, sources said.

The right-hander finishes the season with a 4.56 ERA over 108.2 innings pitched. His next step is much bigger than baseball, however.
