Florham Park, NJ May 31, 2023 -- Jets head coach Robert Saleh addresses the media before the start of the Jets OTA.

(New York) — In case you didn’t notice, the Jets canceled their joint scrimmage with the Buccaneers on Thursday, leaving Tampa to have to scramble for a place to hold their own practice

Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters the cancellation was done in an effort to avoid injuries and to avoid more “melees,” as the two teams got into multiple scuffles in a heated joint practice the day before.

But, WFAN Host Tiki Barber says he has heard there was a different reason why the Jets bailed.

“Coach Saleh couldn’t be at practice, and as a result, because they were being filmed by Hard Knocks…when Saleh couldn’t be there, they had to cancel practice,” Tiki said. So why wasn’t the coach there?”

Tiki says the Jets canceled practice because Saleh has already received criticism for his coaching style after the first two episodes of Hard Knocks premiered.

“We know the reason,” WFAN co-host Evan Roberts  said of Saleh’s absence from practice. “It’s not worth sharing. It’s personal, and it’s nothing serious. I don’t think it’s worth saying because it’s private and it doesn’t matter.

Tiki also made sure to note that a head coach not being present at a joint practice isn’t that rare, though it isn’t common by any means, either.

It’s probably just a reach by another host trying to generate clicks, but hey, he did his job, he has us talking.

The Jets will host the Buccaneers Saturday night at MetLife.
