(New York) — The New York Yankees have called the quits on the 2023 season.

The team is promoting outfield prospect Everson Pereira before tomorrow’s series opener against the Nationals, Jack Curry of the YES Network reports. Infielder Oswald Peraza is also being recalled from Triple-A, according to Curry.

Pereira is the club’s No. 3 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and is a righty-hitting outfielder in an organization that has a desperate need for an upgrade in left field.

The 22-year-old crushed Double-A pitching this season (.908 OPS in 46 games) before a promotion to Triple A where he hit .308 with six homers in his first 32 games.

Peraza, meanwhile, has already seen MLB playing time this year, slashing .173/.328/.192 across 19 games.

“I’m told the plan is for them to play essentially every day going forward,” Brandon Kuty of the Athletic states.

In addition to Pereira and Peraza, Jasson Dominguez will be heading to Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Corresponding moves likely won’t come until tomorrow (already made room for Carlos Rodón’s activation by demoting reliever Greg Weissert), but the Yankees shouldn’t have much trouble finding two players to demote.

The Bombers have lost eight straight games (longest streak since 1995) and subsequently are in danger of suffering their first losing season since 1992.

Amid the slide, the Yankees are now nine games out of a wild card spot in the American League.
