(Bronx, NY) – Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe is the recipient of some fresh hardware, as he was named one of Rawlings’ Gold Glove winners for 2023.

Volpe explained he “ran into Jason Heyward a couple of weeks ago and I said he’d look good without a beard on.”

It’s not a crazy idea, given New York would benefit from adding some depth in the outfield, especially considering the health issues veterans Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge have endured – plus, center fielder Harrison Bader was let go late last season.

Heyward, a 34-year-old Ridgewood, New Jersey native showed his career isn’t over last year, after being picked up by the LA Dodgers. That followed his earlier release by he Chicago Cubs, who signed him to a massive contract years back.

Since beginning his career with the Atlanta Braves in 2010, Heyward has played over 1,500 games in RF, 227 in center, and just seven in LF.
