(New York, NY) – Sports dads are an interesting bunch.

Depending on the father in question, they either tend to overrate their kids – or be extremely hard on them. Either way – mom and dad are often a player’s biggest fan – whether we’re talking Pop Warner or the NFL.

That’s certainly true for Giants QB Tommy Devito, who has become the starter for New York after getting an opportunity amid injury. With Devito securing the starting gig for at least one more weekend – he’ll be under center when the Giants take on the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football – 77 WABC caught up with the young signal caller’s dad.

Wayne, NJ Ñ November 28, 2023 Ñ Fans lined up to see New York Giants quarterback and Don Bosco Prep alum, Tommy DeVito sign autographs at PrimoHoagies in Wayne, NJ on November 28, 2023.

Tommy Devito, who played his college ball at Syracuse and graduated from Don Bosco High School – after growing up in Cedar Grove – has been famously living at home with his parents during his early NFL career. He wasn’t drafted and signed with the Giants as a free agent this past spring.

Now, he’s the local kid done good – and fans are loving it – including his “chef’s kiss” touchdown celebration. Dad Tom Devito, a plumber who owns his own business in Essex County, told 77 WABC that if he and his son aren’t enjoying chicken cutlets at home, Tommy’s mom makes a mean chicken giambotta — with the peppers, and onions, and potatoes.

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito (15) gets ready to pass the ball at MetLife Stadium, Sunday, November 26, 2023.

After getting the food discussion covered (an absolute must for any Italian from Essex County) we transitioned into dad’s thoughts on Tommy’s young career – and we asked him for some feedback. Tom Devito rated his plumbing business a 90/100 on the traditional Madden scale, admitting they do most things great, but can always improve. What about his son’s quarterbacking skills?

Well, the elder Devito gave Tommy an identical 90/100 – room for improvement, but already at a high level. And what would you expect from dad? He’s proud of his son, and enjoying the level of play he’s put forth so far.

Plus, if the Giants can’t beat the Packers, there’s always the chicken cutlet. Mangia!
