NEW YORK — As the New York Mets are busy preparing for the regular season in Port St. Lucie, owner Steve Cohen is occupied with social media.

In January, the Amazins’ announced plans to create a dance team that will perform on gameday at Citi Field. That team, the Queens Crew, has now been assembled. The group consists of 19 members.

But fans aren’t thrilled with the idea. An “X” user shared their displeasure on the social media platform on Monday.

“This is baseball… this isn’t the nba or nfl. There’s not halftime in this game. I don’t see how a dance team is necessary?”

The comment didn’t sit well with the Mets boss.

“Excellent point. I forgot how serious baseball is relative to other sports,” Cohen said in response.

The Mets are not the first team in MLB to create a dance team. The Braves, Astros, and Marlins already have implemented squads. The crew will perform between innings, including during the T-shirt tosses and seventh-inning stretch, and will also make their way through the aisles for more freestyle routines.

Fans cheer as Mets owner Steve Cohen makes his way through the crowd prior to the unveiling of the Tom Seaver statue outside Citi Field prior to the start of game between the Mets and Diamondbacks April 15, 2022.
Mets Home Opener

Since taking over the Mets in November 2020, Cohen has made his mark on the organization. Not only has he spent a ton of money in hopes of putting together a winner- but he’s tried relentlessly to enhance the fan experience.

But with low expectations entering the 2024 season, Cohen may want to stay off social media. And work on building a championship roster. Just a thought.
