(Green Bay, WI) – A league rushing title winner in 2022, Josh Jacobs is widely accepted as one of the NFL’s best runners of the football.

But his new head coach Matt LaFleur likes the ability to use him as a receiver out of the backfield as well.

After beginning his career with the Raiders, Jacobs inked a contract with Green Bay that will pay him a guaranteed $12.5 million and around $12 per year.

“I think the first thing that jumps off to me is just his play style,” LaFleur said Tuesday. “Like he is tough, hard-nosed. He can be a high-volume guy. Just studying him, I think there’s more out there for him in regards to the passing game, using him out of the backfield. He’s put some really good choice routes on tape. That’s something we always try to get to. We’ve done it a little bit more down in the red area. But I love the person, just being around him in that brief time when he came into Green Bay.”

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur leaves the field after losing to the San Francisco 49ers during their NFC divisional playoff football game Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Last year was actually sort of a down year for Jacobs in terms of receiving. He hauled in 37 receptions across 13 games. But in 2022 he caught 53 passes and ranked 20th in RB yard per route run. Dating back to his rookie season, Jacobs has caught at least 20 passes in each year of his career.
