WASHINGTON — The Washington Commanders are closing in on their new quarterback.

And it will likely be Jayden Daniels.

In some odds movement Wednesday, Daniels now appears to be heading to Washington, with his odds moving to -330 from -160 on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels 5 as the LSU Tigers take on Texas A&M in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, November 25, 2023.

With implied odds of -330, equaling 76.74 percent chance it happens, Daniels is now the clear front-runner to be the the next Commanders signal caller.

The LSU product has special traits, standing at 6’4, while weighing 180 lbs. And with some added weight the hope is he could be a taller version of Robert Griffin III.

The odds movement is a bit curious as there have been no major signs from reporters or the teams themselves that they are truly trending toward landing on Daniels.

The Commanders hold the No. 2 pick in the draft and there is not a whole lot of mystery surrounding what the team will do.

They will be taking a quarterback, which was always likely but turned into a near-certainty once the team traded away 2023 starter Sam Howell last month. The only question is which quarterback they’ll take.

For what it’s worth NFL Insider Mel Kiper agrees with the line movement.

“Everybody is trying to complicate this and throw names out like Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy into the mix it. I get that, okay,” Mel Kiper said as he introduced his latest mock draft. “(Everybody) thought Baker Mayfield was going number one (in 2018) overall. I said Josh Allen. So you write (the names) in pencil this time of year, but Jayden Daniels, you’re talking about a guy who is ready to play.

“I think with the dual threat that he is, okay and how much improvement he showed from 2023 to 2023, (he was) kind of Joe Burrow like in terms of that improvement. And he can escape, so he doesn’t put maximum pressure on that offensive line.”

While the odds movement doesn’t make this a lock to happen, it certainly implies that it will. And luckily for fans, the draft is right around the corner.
