(Staten Island, NY) – The Staten Island FerryHawks effectively plucked the Long Island Ducks this week – dispatching their Atlantic League North rivals in a three-game sweep.

The series victory was punctuated by a 14-7 blowout win on Thursday night in Central Islip.

Then, on a gorgeous, sun-splashed spring day in the St. George section of Staten Island – the FerryHawks opened up for the home fans. They entered play 4-3 overall on the young season, good enough for a first-place tie in the North Division. It will be a weekend series with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.

Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella threw out the first pitch Friday night in front of a sell-out crowd. Leading the FerryHawks offensive attack this year is former World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval. The former All-Star who played in MLB with the San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves recently signed with Staten Island.

While making a bid for a comeback during Spring Training with San Francisco, he strictly batted lefty, despite being a switch hitter throughout his big league career. During the offseason, Sandoval is a resident of Santa Monica, California.
