NEW YORK — While the full NFL schedule will not be unveiled until 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday night, some matchups have begun to be announced around the league.

And for the Jets and Aaron Rodgers – It’s deja vu.

The league announced on Tuesday that the Jets will travel to San Francisco to face the defending NFC champions Sept. 9 on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”

And this time, the Jets can only hope the season lasts more than four plays.

It’s a captivating matchup, as Rodgers squares off against Brock Purdy, the 2022 Mr. Irrelevant who has turned into one of the NFL’s biggest success stories. The 49ers are coming off a crushing defeat in Super Bowl LVIII, a 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

As for Jets – they are coming off a 7-10 season highlighted by quarterback inconsistencies.

It’s also a special matchup for Rodgers, who was a childhood fan of the 49ers — until they passed on him in the 2005 NFL Draft.

“Not as disappointed as the 49ers will be that they didn’t draft me,” Rodgers said when asked about not being selected. The 40-year-old is 6-3 vs. the 49ers in the regular season, but 0-4 in the playoffs in his 19-year career.
