FLORIDA — Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll ahead of this week’s PGA Championship.

The star filed documents in Florida on Monday, according to TMZ Sports, seven years after they tied the knot.

The couples shares a daughter – Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, who was born in 2020.

The four-time major winner was first romantically linked to Stoll in late 2014, months after he broke off his engagement with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.

Rory first met Erica back in 2012 — when she was working the Ryder Cup event for the PGA. McIlroy credited her with helping him get a police escort to the course after alarm problems caused him to nearly miss his tee time.

“Erica that week was always the one that was checking us in and out. She was there at transportation, so she was always in the car park over there (by the clubhouse),” McIlroy said in a 2019 interview, according to NBC Sports.  “But yeah, it’s still cool to look around and think about that week, and obviously everything that’s happened since then. It’s pretty cool.”

McIlroy married Stoll in a star-studded ceremony at Ashford Castle in Ireland in 2017, with Steve Wonder, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin among those in attendance.

Reasons for the breakup were not made immediately available.

But Rory won’t have much time to wallow over the split — he’s slated to compete in this weekend’s PGA Championship in Kentucky, where he and Scottie Scheffler are considered big favorites.
