The sports betting industry has been on an unprecedented rise and Super Bowl 57 will be no different.
Over 50 million U.S. adults are expected to bet on the Super Bowl, nearly 20 percent of the country’s population. The bets are expected to grow to 16 billion dollars combined, according to an American Gaming Association survey.
The number of bettors increased 61 percent from a year ago, largely in part to more states launching online sports betting platforms, including Kansas, Ohio, Maryland and Massachusetts.
33 states have legalized gambling but the 16 billion dollar number includes both legal and illegal sports betting from a wide variety of sportsbooks. The numbers are as follows:
- 50 million adults, or 20 percent of the United States will bet on Super Bowl 57
- Of that 50 million number, 38 percent will bet online
- 26 percent will bet in pools
- 13 percent will bet with a bookie
This year, the Super Bowl takes place at a venue with a sportsbook in the stadium, something never before seen at the big game. BetMGM operates a sportsbook out of State Farm Arena and will only allow bets from ticket holders on game day.
Among the most fun bets to make is the Gatorade shower color. Three of the past four Super Bowls saw the winner bathe in blue to celebrate winning the Lomardi trophy. Kansas City’s victory in 2020 brought an orange shower while Philly danced in yellow in 2018.
This year, orange is a heavy favorite at +300.
