(New York, NY) — Aaron Rodgers is officially unofficially a New York Jet. And New York fans can thank new Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

Speaking with Pat McAfee on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers alluded to Hackett as one of the top reasons for his want to be a Jet.  “Everyone knows that Nathaniel Hackett brings a lot of energy, a lot of fun,” McAfee said. “he’s a really great human being … and a great football coach.” It was under Hackett that Rodgers won back-to-back MVPs. He mentioned Hackett meant as much to him as any coach he’s ever had.

Rodgers made it clear earlier on the show that “As of Friday, my intention was to play, and my intention was to play for the New York Jets.” This marks a huge leap in the saga that is Aaron Rodgers’ future. Rodgers has made frequent appearances on McAfee’s show for a while, leading anticipation to be through the room following the announcement of what he plans to do.  Of course, the only hurdle is the compensation.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers are looking for a deal similar to what the Lions got for Matthew Stafford. That deal included Stafford heading to the Rams for two first-round picks, a third-rounder, and Jared Goff. At this point, the deal for Rodgers is the best example of a matter of when and not if.

However, time will tell if the teams can actually strike a deal, as the teams seem far apart on what the value of Rodgers actually is.
