(New York, NY) — The New York Jets are making a splash.

The team announced today that they have traded WR Elijah Moore and a 2023 third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick. In simpler terms, the Jets move up from the No. 74 pick to the No. 42 pick in exchange for the 25-year-old pass catcher.

The Jets now have two second-round picks (Nos. 42 and 43), which they figure to use in their attempts to acquire Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers expressed his intention to play for the Jets in 2023 on the Pat McAfee show last week, but the teams haven’t been able to agree on compensation.

After adding former Chiefs pass catcher Mecole Hardman in free agency, Moore’s fate was essentially sealed. The Jets selected the talented pass catcher in the second round of the 2021 Draft and he showed promise as a rookie compiling 43 catches for 538 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games.

However, following a tumultuous beginning of the 2022 season, Moore requested a trade in October, after growing frustrated with his lack of targets. He had a blowup with  former OC Mike LaFleur in practice and was sent home and was made inactive for a game, sources said.

A change of scenery was likely needed to spark his career, though that is far from a lock to happen in Cleveland. Corey Davis could be next on the list of Jets receivers being sent packing.
