NCAA Basketball: Final Four National Championship-San Diego State vs UCONN
(Storrs, Connecticut) — The defending national champions have their head coach of the future.
The University of Connecticut announced Thursday that Dan Hurley has agreed to a new six-year contract. According to ESPN, the new deal guarantees Hurley nearly 33-million-dollars, which makes him among the highest-paid coaches in the sport.
“My family and I sincerely appreciate [university president] Dr. Maric, [athletic director] David Benedict and the entire administration team for the faith and trust they have bestowed upon us,” Hurley said in a statement.
The contract runs through the 2028-29 season. In his five seasons at UConn, Hurley has amassed an impressive 104-55 record leading the Huskies to their fifth national championship after topping San Diego State back in April.
“I want to thank the players and staff who helped make this climb possible. Coaching at the University of Connecticut is an honor and we intend to build on our success as one of the premier programs in college basketball.
Hurley, 50, came to UConn from Rhode Island prior to the 2018-19 season taking over for the popular Kevin Ollie.
